Tap Water Facts
Tap water is not without its problems. In 2005, the nonprofit Environmental Working Group (EWG) tested municipal water in 42 states and detected some 260 contaminants in public water supplies. Of those, 141 were unregulated chemicals for which public health officials have no safety standards, much less methods for removing them.
Contamination affects the way water smells, tastes and impacts our health. Some are natural and many are caused by poor water regultion and eco-hygiene. Contaminants enter our water from industy, agriculture, and urban run off. Many of these contaminants are linked to cancer. Traditional water treatment plants aren't equiped to filter out chemicals and harmful metals and are there to treat our water with additional chemicals to disinfect our water from microorganisms.

Below you will find a list of the most common contaminants found in your tap water and what possible long term risk to your health that are associcated with them. Keep in mind when you choose not to filter your water for contaminants, your body then becomes the filter and the potential health implications associated go a lot futher than just having bad tasting water.
